This blog is about my personal journey towards health and well being. I am excited to be rediscovering food, exercise and the joys of physical existence. I am not a doctor, dietician or expert of any kind. I can only claim to be an expert in my own experience and have decided to share that experience mainly for my own interest and exploration. If reading anything I have written turns out to be helpful to anyone else that would be an added bonus but I do not assume that my experience is necessarily valid or interesting to others. However, I encourage everyone to widely explore the discussions around diet and exercise and critically evaluate all sides of the argument. These issues are way too personal and important for us to abdicate individual responsibility and we need to use all the information at our disposal to come to the best possible understanding of how best to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
I have the unbelievable privilege of living in one of the most beautiful places on the planet: The Cape Winelands. Not only am I surrounded by breath taking scenery and picturesque wine farms as far as the eye can see, there is plenty of rich, biodynamic agriculture going on right on my doorstep. My journey to health is very much taken as a quest to discover my local environment. It takes me to the fine dining restaurants of genius chefs such as Richard Carstens, Ruben Riffel and Margot Janse, farmers markets, and artisanal food producers. It is not a journey of deprivation, but of abundance! For any junk food addict trying to get clean, I couldn’t have chosen a better place to live!
